I JUST GOT HOME AND

THERE WERE LLAMA'S, ALPACA'S, COLTSWALDS SHEEP, AND MANY OTHERS. THERE WERE SO
MANY DIFFERENT TYPES. THE LLAMA'S FUR WAS MOSTLY STRAIGHT AND MATT SHEEN,
ALPACA'S WERE SOFTER AND ALSO STRAIGHT. THE SHEEP WERE CURLEY. AND THE GOATS
WERE LONG AND CURLY. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO DECIDE WHAT WAS THE BEST TO GET.
MANY OF THE VENDORS OFFERED UNWASHED FOR VERY REASONABLE PRICES. ABOUT $7 A LB.

I BOUGHT A 2 OZ BAG OF MOHAIR WASHED,
TO TRY. TWO EMAILS I PICKED UP ARE DICSSHEEP@YAHOO.COM & KTSHEEP@NETSCOPE.NET, THE FIRST ONE
IS WINDY ACRES FARM, AND THE SECOND ADDY IS CLINCH MOUNTAIN FIBERS. I ALSO
PICKED UP A COUPLE FELTING NEEDLES TO TRY FELTING THE BEARD TO THE FACE. IT WAS
A VERY INFORMATIVE
AFTERNOON.

I am on a momentary hiatus from the various men that have been complicating my life (along with best friend's wedding, starting a new job, and all the rest that bombards us all! :0) Plus, I work better under pressure but am coming dangerously close to missing these deadlines for my commissions! Lisa - mattress padding! Get the foam rubber "egg crate" type. Put the egg crate or waffle texture towards the body. The dimples in the foam allow it to conform to the body curves - yet it is smooth on the outside. I have only done one life size but that what I used. Holly H.

Hi guys!
So I am sitting here after a lovely fall day sipping a cup of hot spiced cider (ok, so it's spiked with a nip of rum...LOL) and trying to figure out what to use to pad the wood and tube armature I have made for my largest Santa to date- he will be about 4 foot 6 inches tall when done-
I usually use strips of cotton or poly batting but it just seems that would take a ton (not to mention the cutting of the strips- yikes!)
Any suggestions on what to pad this body with? I would like something that would give it a firm feel and then I will stuff and needle sculpt the body stocking to add extra padding, softer, where needed.
Suggestions greatly appreciated! Hugs,

Shirley, the doctor is right. I've had flibitis in my left leg (initially caused by birth controle pills) since my youngest daughter was born. It bothered me lots for a number of years, but the doctors have always told me that walking is really the best medicine for it. I've had to take heprine a couple of times to disolve the clots. I take a couple of baby asperine a day to keep them from forming now. Sherry

No . . . I'm just gonna make you suffer Abbie . . . so no pics. LOL! Actually I'll be glad to. I wanted to take some pics for your journal anyway. We have had a very busy week, and a wedding tomorrow (Yippie! last one this year! I love when weddings start up in the spring but I am so glad when they taper off in the fall. Feel free on both counts. I did the sleigh as the main accessory - I really had a few more things planned, but the runners on the sleigh didn't go as smoothly as I thought they would, & I ran out of time!!! So, that leaves the options open for everybody after me to fill the sleigh with all kinds of Santa-like goodies for all the good little girls & boys!!! My digital cam-corder isn't the best; I'm not all that impressed with digi-cams, period. I think I'll just go back to my regular SRL & have them put the pix on disc, so I can just download!!! Abbie

Layaway Contract

Shirley, the doctor is right. I've had flibitis in my left leg (initially caused by birth controle pills) since my youngest daughter was born. It bothered me lots for a number of years, but the doctors have always told me that walking is really the best medicine for it. I've had to take heprine a couple of times to disolve the clots. I take a couple of baby asperine a day to keep them from forming now. Sherry

Jill, My sister, Moma has alot of blood clots in her lungs and my uncle went into the hospital today also. He has blood clots in his legs. Moma's lung dr. said everyone should
get up and walk around every 30 min. to an hour to prevent dvt(blood clots in the leg). I think all of us doing crafts and making Santas etc should know this. Thank you so much for your prayers. Shirley

Terry Embrey! THANK YOU SO MUCH TERRY! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HAS HAPPENED SINCE I GOT BACK FROM THE POST OFFICE!!! It was a little damaged in transit but I have decided to lock myself inside even though the snow has stopped outside today and it got quite warm and read it from cover to cover. Only big problem is that because of some of the pictures of the collectible santas I started hauling out my santa stuff to prove to my husband that I actually own a couple of the plastic pcs. from the 50's. I had them verifyed by an appraiser a few years ago. Not worth a great deal of money but definately are 50's! So now I have snow outside a fire going and only a quarter of my santas all over the livingroom! Hubby reminded me that winter doesn't come until Dec. 21st! Well not in this town! It snowed heavily for four days in a row! Now I have snow santas and this wonderful book to play with! I'm going to be in trouble with those rolling eyes everytime I pull out another one and say oh do you remember where we were when I found this one? (married 25 yrs this yr) So there could be a few of those rolling eyes moments tonight. Oh great son just called he & girlfriend aand his brother are coming out tomorrow. Now I ask you what do I do? Put the santas away or pull out the rest?? No point trying to run around cleaning up the place they will just mess it up! Oh and the slush and grate guy?? Well he has another face happening but it could be his halloween face! It's that bad still ~Norma

Thanks for the BHG phone number Holly - I called them today to find out why I hadn't received my Santa book yet - and they told me that my account had been inactivated sometime in July. I suspect that is when I returned Vol. #1 that they had sent me in error. I, too, was told that I'd now get the new issue in about 3 or 4 weeks. So for those of you who haven't gotten their copy yet - you may want to call them and see if you account was mysteriously inactivated as well. Sharon

Thank you, Holly. A sense of motion is something that I try to convey in all my pieces, whether they are just standing or sleeping. I never really knew if anyone ever noticed, but it makes them come alive for me. In this piece, his hair is flowing back and out at the sides but again, the picture was taken in the competition room after the piece had been handled over and over, and he wasn't ready to say 'cheese'. Your advice is really valuable, especially coming from a professional photographer. I appreciate it, as I'm sure we all do. One of the perks of belonging to this list is that we get the benefit of everyone's experience. Trish

Walter you have such a good sense of whimsy, and I just love your carvings.
Carved Santas are my favorite, and I have a collection that I am very proud
of, (although I didn't carve any of them myself). I really like the new

My Mom is in the hospital with emyphsia and today they found out she has a
blood clot in her lungs. She is coughing and if she coughs to hard and it
dislodges it could go to her heart and she could die. I would like to ask
for your prayers. I put her
in hospital yesterday after she couldn't get off
the couch to go to the bathroom. I want to thank you all for prayers in
advance. I will be at the hospital most of the next few days. She is getting
a shot in her stomach twice a day to help disolve it(believe it is heprin).

Thanks for all of the kind words -

My goal is to create happy, joyful santas - sounds like I am accomplishing that. I also try to keep my Santas in their prime - younger rather than older. I've worked hard at creating my own style these past few years.

Hoppie - you might have also seen my Santas in an article that was in the DOLLS Holiday issue that was out last Dec/Jan - I've also had a few photos here and there in a few magazines.

Becki, Thanks! exactly what I needed to know. The picture looks just a bit gray - is that just the picture or is it really more cream? Either way, count me in for a pound.
